Peaceful street marches by Tibetan Buddhist monks in past days grew
into the biggest demonstrations the remote Himalayan region has seen
in nearly two decades, with anti-riot police patrolling the streets
months before the Beijing .

worlds most well known living religious leader, the Dalai Lama, once
again called for peaceful demonstrations and dialogue, but the Chinese
government has blocked any news of the riots or pleas .
Chinese state
media has carried a rare report of disturbances in Tibet. Almost 2
people were involved in a riot following an argument between Buddhist
monks and a local shopkeeper, Xinhua news agency said. .
